What Motivates You?
My biggest motivation is the power to be able to be myself. I moved to Atlanta, GA, from Sylvester, GA, which is a very small town, to be able to be more myself. Being a gay man, I am not accepted everywhere, and I wanted to be in a place where I could thrive and grow.
I was motivated to go for my Associate’s Degree in Marketing Management and graduated in 2013. I made the move to Atlanta in 2015 to start my career at Waste Management as a Dispatcher.
My Career
WM gave me the opportunity to connect with other businesses and brokers. I made many relationships and built my career up. One of those relationships, Optimum Management Solutions, offered me a role as a communications coordinator in 2017. I took my career to new heights and began using my degree at Optimum Management Solutions, effectively helping the business grow by building and managing the company website and marketing/communications needs. I also helped with contract management, Salesforce procurement, and the creation and consideration of new business ideas.
As you never burn your bridges, I took my career back to WM in 2018 when Optimum Waste USA’s business began to drop, as my salary dropped, and I could not afford my lifestyle in that role. I went back to WM as a sales coordinator, helping local sales write contracts and support our customer base. I was promoted into the National Account Broker Coordinator role at WM in 2019 and began coordinating projects and approving pricing for all broker business for WM across the country. This was a huge step in my career! I worked for WM through the pandemic, however I was laid off by WM in 2021. I found a new career at ThyssenKrupp Elevator as a National Account Sales Coordinator. In this role, I created contractual riders and addendums for national accounts at TKE for elevator maintenance needs. I found that in this role, I mostly worked alone as the folks I worked with lived across the country. I did not have much of a work family or connection with the people I worked with and found myself looking for more fulfillment in the work I was doing. This need took me back to the waste industry, where I started my career. I started my career as a Territory Manager for Waste Connections in 2022. I worked directly in the field and created strong relationships with businesses across Atlanta, GA.
This brought me to find RNDC. I found RNDC by riding around in my territory as a Territory Manager. I did business with RNDC before working at RNDC! I was one of the top sales reps at Waste Connections for Georgia and was allowed to start a new territory for the company. This helped me grow tremendously! Being a gay man, I still had issues with some people accepting me, even in Atlanta. I found this to be an issue at the current time at Waste Connections with my then-current manager. I found myself at a crossroads again, looking for a career that really brought diversity, culture, engagement, and growth into my life. I remembered the great relationships I made at RNDC and saw that the company was about diversity and culture. This led me to apply for the inside sales representative role, starting my career at RNDC in March of 2023! I continued to be one of the top inside sales reps for the state of Florida, for 3 quarters straight! I was promoted to the inside sales team leader position in December of 2023. I began leading a team of 40 inside sales representatives. With the help of Dez, my manager, we helped our team grow and really blossom. Our team continued to be one of the top inside sales teams in the nation throughout 2024! In January of 2024, I also helped create the Rainbow RNDC Atlanta chapter as the Co Leader. This was a big step in the right direction in my career!
At the end of 2024, I was promoted to the communications specialist role for the inside sales team and was also spotlighted in my Colleges Alumni magazine. I have truly enjoyed growing my career here at RNDC. I am looking to grow my career in marketing and communications as I move forward!
